The Literature Review in the Research Process

Research methods: writing: literature review

How data was collected:  State, step-by-step, how data was collected from participants. Note : Only explain how the data was collecteddo not report any of the data that was collected.  Hold that for the results section. The nature of the reporting varies, depending on the nature of the study.  Here are some suggestions that cover the types of research most commonly presented in the Transactions on Professional Communication. The story of this study needs to be told in a way that makes the reading easy. To prevent any confusion, present each discussion as follows: Restate the hypothesis Explain which data was collected to provide insights about that hypothesis Explain how the data was analyzed to make an assessment Explicitly state whether the data supports the hypothesis and why you.

Methodology Note that readers of the Transactions come from a wide variety of research traditions. So regardless of the methods employed in your study, a large group of readers will have limited experience with them.

Choose those studies which are most relevant and most important. Organizing the review: After you have decided which studies to review, you must decide how to order them. In making your selection, keep your research question in mind. Information from research generally does not relate to the research question(s). It is underdevel-oped; no details and/or examples are given. Informa-tion is irrelevant to the research question(s). Use of sources: good quality, woven, fair use 30 pts. Excellent quality sources that are used fairly and demon-strate a variety of perspec-tives. quot;s are skillfully woven in the writers own words. Good quality sources that are fairly used and demon-strate more than one perspective. Also check The Statistical Abstract of the United States and US Almanac for statistics. (See pages 151-155 159 in Compose, Design, Advocate textbook). Avoid sources that you randomly found through the Web. Save that information for the Results section. Instruments or experiments: For instruments, like surveys, provide a summary of the key sections of the instrument, the type of information collected in each, and the nature of the questions (Likert scale, etc.). Questions may further knowledge and are answerable (not too broad, not too narrow). Questions do not have the potential to further knowledge and/or cannot be answered in this project (too narrow or too broad). Abstract A short, one or two-paragraph summary of your research and your findings 2. Introduction General background information that prompted the research A clear statement of purpose Stated research questions (3-4).  As part of the research report, authors of integrative literature reviews describe the methodology used to search, choose and code studies, and focus on providing a critique or interpretation rather than just reporting data.  It is regarded as the final part of the composition which the reader will experience. In writing the conclusion, make sure to: Sum up the similarities or distinctness of the subjects chosen. To find out how to correctly layout in formal format, please take a look at our specific formal/business. Free Guide. You should start with a greeting which should begin on the left side of the page. This should only be done if you are certain that something will be a problem. If not, just leave any further issues to an interview. If you do want to explain problems, do so clearly, explain what went wrong and how you have fixed it or will fix it, and move on. Organize the body of your cover letter into the following paragraphs: First Paragraph The first paragraph of your letter should include information on why you are writing. Mention the position you are applying for and where you found the job listing. The most widely used opening is "Dear" followed by the person's first name (if it is someone that you know) or surname (if it is someone that you are not particularly familiar with) followed by a comma. I feel that my familiarity with keeping records and regularly updating a system will serve me well as a customer service representative at your bank. Bad: As a bartender I often had to interact with a computer system which is very similar to what is used in a bank. What is a conclusion? A conclusion is what you will leave with your reader. It "wraps up" your essay It demonstrates to the reader that you accomplished what you set out to do. This suggests to your reader that you have accomplished what you set out to accomplish. Do not simply restate your thesis statement, as that would be redundant. Rephrase the thesis statement with fresh and deeper understanding. Your instructor may require that your research questions are approved before you begin your research. As you read widely but selectively in your topic area, consider what themes or issues connect your sources togetherwhich ones are most relevant to the questions you are asking?

CATEGOR Research Questions: Quality and answerability 30 pts. Questions have the potential to significant-ly further knowledge and are answerable (not too broad, not too narrow). Questions have the potential to effectively further knowledge and are answerable (not too broad, not too narrow).
